1 - The dancing is over
A few dancers remain
I knew all the faces once
Forgotten the names
The boys on my dance card
They left with the band
Now I’m turning the lights out
I’m taking one last look
I’m ready if you’ll take my hand.
2 - A young girl is leaving
In her velvet and lace
Belle of the ball
With a beautiful face
She danced every number
I seem to recall
But the memories drift now
They slip through my hands now
Like ribbons, how softly they fall.
Bridge - Turning and turning and turning around
There’s snow on the horses as we ride into town
Whirling like waltzes, so light and so gay
Now circle your partners and all fall away.
3 - We came to the dance
Such a long time ago
May come again
For all that we know
So here’s to the dancers
Who circle the floor
Some near the ending
Some just beginning
On this round and how many more.
