lyrics

1 - I'll be flying over Greenland
If all goes well
That's just one way out
Of this version of hell
The writer was anonymous
He wasn't much on plot
But he sure could write a love scene
He had a way with words
And in a way that helped a lot.

2 - I've been sitting here with words
Running out my pen
I write till I'm exhausted
I don't know what I'm doing
Then the words come up again
Flying ‘round at night
Like bats bumping into screens
They seem so aimless, they seem so blind
But they're in some larger scheme
(I’m sure of it, there is some larger scheme).

CHO - You mark your place in this world
With your shattered star
Hold on, hold on
Whatever you do, wherever you are.

3 - I'll be waking up in Paris
If all goes well
Having cake and coffee
By the morning bells
He dropped me off here
On his way out of my life
He had his reasons
I know he did
And he earned the right.

CHO - You mark your place in this world
With your shattered star
Hold on, hold on
Whatever you do, wherever you are.

4 - But I'm doing all right, I met some guy
He never has much to say
He looked me over, he said I might be useful
In some small way
I just drop this suitcase at the station
And mail the key
He said, not much danger
Just don't ask questions
Well that's all right with me
(I’ve been asking too many questions).

CHO - You mark your place in this world
With your shattered star
Hold on, hold on
Whatever you do, wherever you are.

5 - It's a big, big world and it's a strange world
And it makes no sense
But the stakes get higher and the picture just gets larger
Till it's too immense
I'm drawn to the light while I'm running toward the darkness
I may never know
About this high-stakes guessing game
With no magic doors
And too many ways to go
And sometimes there's the cost . . .
Sometimes there’s the cost . . .
Sometimes there’s the cost . . .
But you're never really lost . . .
